Boards
I have used the following boards:
PreSonus StudioLive 32R 32-channel Rackmount Digital Mixer
Behringer X32 Rack 40-channel Rackmount Digital Mixer - Careful with this one its really only 16 XLR inputs and 6 Aux Ins. What I use this one for is when we were traveling and doing a play as well as a haunted house. So I have 2 of these that can work separately. But for a 180 Music Scene I can set up 2 of these to work as one board with 32 XLR inputs. One thing you do miss out on when using the rackmount mixer vs regular digital mixer is the visual of the input to the gate and compressor.Â
Allen & Heath Qu-24 24-channel Digital Mixer
Mackie CFX20MK2 20 Channel Mixer with 16 XLR Mic Inputs and 32-Bit Digital Effects Processor
Mackie ProFX12v2 12-Channel Professional FX Mixer with USB
For a song service I highly recommend a PreSonus digital mixer. It allows you to play back your song service and practice outside of song service! But of course this is dependent on the number of inputs you have. If you are working on a budget but would like a digital board I recommend a rack mount mixer, 2 iPads, and a Router. This eliminates the need for a mixer in the back of the room and a snake. This allows you to mix anywhere in the room. The PreSonus also has a feature that allows you to do a soundcheck off a recording of your service. This allows you to practice and dial in your sound without anyone else playing. Here is a video on this.
